FAST®  Replace Septic Tanks and Sewer Lines
Inside a septic tank, suspended throughout the tank's liquids, are dangerous organic chemical contaminants such as phosphorus, nitrogen and ammonia. Also lurking inside septic tank liquids are countless millions of living toxic bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Because septic tanks can only separate solids from liquids, most of these contaminants and pathogens are free-floating in the material that flows out of septic tanks into to pristine land and water.

The liquids from septic tanks clog and destroy drainage field property and poison water resources. Organisms left behind inside septic tanks create deadly hydrogen sulphide and methane gas. (see About Septic Systems below).

FAST® consume all biodegradable contaminants and release clear, odorless water.

FAST®  Fixed  Activated  Sewage Treatment
Harnessing proven advanced micro-biological technology, the biodegradable contaminants in sewage wastewater are completely metabolized during low, medium and high usage periods. All toxins are consumed by a beneficial colony of aerobic bacteria which are fixed inside of the FAST® bio-reactor module, situated inside of the FAST® containment tank.
FAST® cultivate large volumes of beneficial aerobic micro-organisms in their inner aerated media chamber to digest contaminants and change wastewater into clear, odorless, high-quality water. The attached (fixed)growth system assures that these micro-organisms remain inside the system, even during of peak hydraulic flows. FAST® can handle extreme temperature changes and all levels of usage. During times of low usage, the large volumes of fixed thriving micro-organisms prevent their dying off, making FAST® equally suitable for seasonal and occasional use applications.

Dependable, Affordable FAST®
Wastewater from drains enters the FAST® Septic System and clear, odorless water exits. The clear, neutralized water allows for the reduction (or elimination) of septic drainfield size requirements and permits wastewater reuse options, such as spray or drip irrigation, or clear, neutralized water for washrooms.

The installation of a FAST® septic system is straightforward, consisting simply of mounting a FAST® bio-reactor  module into its complementary sized tank. The first compartment of a two-compartment tank acts as a primary settling and anaerobic zone. The FAST® bio-reactor treatment module is the waste processing aerobic zone.

Once installed, the FAST® system is virtually maintenance free. The clean, odorless FAST® wastewater treatment system is located below ground level and the system's only moving part, the quiet-running aerating blower, is placed above ground in an unobtrusive blower housing that can be located up to 100 feet away. A FAST® septic system needs no other filters or pumps. For info or a no-obligation quote Contact Us

FAST® are economical, reliable and environmentally sound
septic systems, designed to process wastewater from residential, commercial, high-strength and municipal sources. FAST®, or Fixed Activated Sewage Treatment, is a fixed film, aerated septic system utilizing an innovative combination of attached and suspended growth to perform nitrification/denitrification within a self-contained bio-reactor module.

How FAST® Works
FAST Septic Systems begin processing wastewater by creating a powerful air lift inside of the FAST®
bio-reactor. The above ground Air-Lift pump continuously mixes fresh air with the new incoming waste
and cascades them vigorously across the FAST® Honeycomb Media, the heart of the FAST process.

The FAST H
oneycomb Media, receiving waterwater mixed with fresh air from the air-lift pump, provides an ideal environment for a  beneficial colony of aerobic (oxygen requiring) micro-organisms to thrive and fix to the honeycomb. The colony is referred to as a fixed biomass. Populating the honeycomb, inside the FAST bio-reactor, the biomass consumes all incoming organic matter.

The FAST® wastewater cleansing process continues as the biomass is supplied with food (new incoming waste) and oxygen from the air-lift pump. All organic contaminants including proteins, carbohydrates and lipids are completely metabolized, venting only air and
carbon dioxide; and releasing only clear, odorless water.

FAST® Septic Systems are warranteed and virtually maintenance free. FAST® Bio-reactor modules contain no sewage pumps, no screens, filters or moving parts to remove, replace or clean. All internal parts are made from durable, long-lasting plastic, not subject to deterioration. Based on environmentally sound, proven scientific principles, FAST® is state-of-the-art technology. The F.A.S.T. (fixed activated sewage treatment) employs a unique hybrid combination of attached and suspended growth in an aerobic packed bed bio-reactor. The fixed-film activated sludge integration combines the stability of a fully-submerged fixed-film media along with the powerful activated sludge treatment, making FAST® Systems technologically advanced, completely reliable and extraordinarily economical.                           About Septic Systems

Living colonies, made up of millions of micro-organisms referred to as a "biomass", occur naturally in all sewage wastewater. In a septic tank, this biomass is "unfixed" (not attached) and evenly suspended throughout the septic tank liquid. Unfixed, these free-floating bacteria and micro-organisms easily spill out, untreated along with the wastewater.

All septic tanks are buried, watertight containers made from concrete, polyethylene or fiberglass. Their function is to separate liquids from solids. The wastewater from the middle of the septic tank flows by displacement into the leaching bed (drain field) for it's treatment within the bed's soil layer. Noxious bacteria and viruses suspended in the septic tank liquids also flow unchecked into the leaching bed. Contaminants freely flowing into the drainage field include: solid and dissolved organic matter (carbon compounds), nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), pestilent bacteria, fungi, malefic viruses and ammonia nitrogen (toxic to aquatic species).
The organic contaminants from septic tank outputs eventually clog and destroy drainage field property, pollute and divert natural water sources and affect one's quality of life:
  • The ground around the septic tank or over the leaching bed becomes spongy to walk on.
  • Toilets, showers and sinks begin to back up, or take longer than usual to drain.
  • Sewage odours become distinctly noticeable, particularly after a rainfall.
  • Gray or black liquids surface in the yard or back up through fixtures into the house.
  • E. coli or fecal coliform indicator bacteria are found in nearby well water or in a surface ditch close to the leaching bed.
  • The water level in the septic tank is higher than the outlet pipe (this indicates that the water is ponding in the distribution lines) - inspection* should only be conducted by a qualified practitioner.

CAUTION: *Do not attempt to inspect or pump out a septic tank yourself. There is no oxygen inside the tank to breathe
and septic tanks contain lethal gases. To inspect or service a septic tank, contact a qualified Wastewater Practitioner.

Living Near Water
The issue of septic tank systems and water quality is especially significant to residents living near lakes.
There are many items for lakeside property owners to consider in order to protect the quality of their lake and the health of their families. During high water periods, a septic tank system is likely to contribute untreated sewage to the body of water. And, as shoreline erosion occurs, the distance between the septic field and the lake shore decreases, resulting in an increased chance of untreated wastewater entering the lake. Lakes contaminated by wastewater pose a health threat.

Disease-causing organisms include those that cause dysentery, cholera, typhoid and Hepatitis A. Nitrates present contaminate drinking water and can lead to illness in humans, including blue baby syndrome, which affects an infant's ability to carry oxygen in its blood. Other contaminant nutrients (primarily phosphorous) promote algae and weed growth in lakes which deplete oxygen levels and cause fish kills.

Over 1200 people expire each year from contaminated water, and many more become ill. Failing septic systems are the leading source of waterborne disease outbreaks in the country today.
